Main opposition's Istanbul chair testifies after spat with Erdoğan aide

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul provincial head Canan Kaftancıoğlu testified on Tuesday after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's aide filed a criminal complaint, Cumhuriyet newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Fahrettin Altun, Erdoğan's communications director, filed a criminal complaint against Kaftancıoğlu, on Thursday, for "praising and encouraging crime" in an ongoing dispute on construction work on Altun's property.

CHP filed a legal complaint against Altun on Apr. 13 after the CHP-run municipality in Istanbul's Üsküdar district reported illegal construction carried out on the aide's land and shared photos of the construction site on social media.

However, Altun responded with his own complaint against Kaftancıoğlu after she defended the municipality’s actions on Twitter.

CHP Üsküdar district head Suat Özçağdaş was charged with violating the “privacy of personal life” for taking photographs of the communications director's property.
